Frequently asked questions

What is a fact family?
A fact family is a group of related math facts that use the same three numbers. For addition and subtraction, 3, 4, and 7 make 3 + 4 = 7, 4 + 3 = 7, 7 − 3 = 4, and 7 − 4 = 3. Multiplication and division work the same way with factors and a product.
How does the fact family triangle help?
The triangle puts the whole (sum or product) at the top and the two parts (addends or factors) at the bottom corners. Cover any one number and you can find it using the other two — which shows how addition and subtraction (or multiplication and division) are inverse operations.
Is this fact family page free to print?
Yes. Choose add/subtract or multiply/divide, then print the facts for reference or the blank version so students write the four facts themselves. No account needed.
