What 3rd Grade math looks like, solved step by step

Real 3rd Grade problems, one per topic, from multiplication to elapsed time โ€” the same explanations your child sees when practicing online.

Fractions

Write a fraction equivalent to 2/3

  1. Equivalent fractions name the same amount. Multiply (or divide) the top and bottom of 2/3 by the same number.
  2. Multiply the top and bottom by 2: 2 ร— 2 = 4 and 3 ร— 2 = 6, so 2/3 = 4/6.
  3. So 2/3 = 4/6.

Elapsed Time

How many minutes from 1:35 to 3:05?

  1. From 1:35 up to 2:00 is 25 minutes.
  2. From 2:00 to 3:00 is 1 hour = 60 minutes.
  3. From 3:00 to 3:05 is 5 more minutes.
  4. Add the jumps: 25 + 60 + 5 = 90.
