   25 + 3 = ?

   1. Break apart both numbers by place value.
   2. 25 = 20 + 5
   3. 3 = 0 + 3
   4. Add the tens: 20 + 0 = 20
   5. Add the ones: 5 + 3 = 8
   6. Combine: 20 + 8 = 28

   Answer: 28

2. Example 2

   59 + 4 = ?

   1. Break apart both numbers by place value.
   2. 59 = 50 + 9
   3. 4 = 0 + 4
   4. Add the tens: 50 + 0 = 50
   5. Add the ones: 9 + 4 = 13
   6. 13 ones = 1 ten and 3 ones (regrouping)
   7. Combine: 50 + 13 = 63

   Answer: 63

3. Example 3

   63 + 2 = ?

   1. Break apart both numbers by place value.
   2. 63 = 60 + 3
   3. 2 = 0 + 2
   4. Add the tens: 60 + 0 = 60
   5. Add the ones: 3 + 2 = 5
   6. Combine: 60 + 5 = 65

   Answer: 65
