Grade 2 Geometry: 3D Shapes
Identify solid shapes
What You'll Learn
- Identify 3D shapes
- Count faces/edges
📖3D
Cubes, spheres, cylinders, cones, and more!
Worked examples
Real problems from the practice worksheets, solved one step at a time.
Example 1
What shape are the 2 flat faces of a cylinder?
- A can has a flat top and a flat bottom.
- Both are circles.
Answer: circle
Example 2
How many vertices does this solid have?
- A vertex is a corner where edges meet.
- Count the corners around the square bottom: 4. Then the point on top: 1.
- 4 + 1 = 5, so this solid has 5 vertices.
Answer: 5
Example 3
How many more vertices does a cube have than a cone?
- A cube has 8 vertices. A cone has 1.
- 8 − 1 = 7
Answer: 7
