   1. Count: the shape has 4 sides (and 4 corners).
   2. A shape with 4 sides is a quadrilateral.

   Answer: quadrilateral

2. Example 2

   How many sides do 3 triangles have in all?

   1. Each triangle has 3 sides.
   2. Add 3 times: 3 + 3 + 3 = 9

   Answer: 9

3. Example 3

   I have 4 corners. What kind of shape am I?

   1. Count: the shape has 4 sides (and 4 corners).
   2. A shape with 4 sides is a quadrilateral.

   Answer: quadrilateral
