   1. Break apart 11 into 10 + 1
   2. 5 × 10 = 50
   3. 5 × 1 = 5
   4. Add the parts: 50 + 5 = 55

   Answer: 55

2. Example 2

   11 × 5 = ?

   1. Break apart 11 into 10 + 1
   2. 5 × 10 = 50
   3. 5 × 1 = 5
   4. Add the parts: 50 + 5 = 55

   Answer: 55

3. Example 3

   5 × 10 = ?

   1. Think of 5 groups of 10.
   2. 5 × 10 = 10 + 10 + 10 + 10 + 10
   3. Skip count by 10: 10, 20, 30, 40, 50
   4. The 5th number is 50.
   5. 5s trick: 10 × 5 = half of 10 × 10 = half of 100 = 50

   Answer: 50
