1. Example 1

   A rectangle is 7 m long and 6 m wide. What is its area in square meters?

   1. Area is the space inside a rectangle. Multiply its length by its width.
   2. Area = length × width = 7 × 6 = 42 square meters.

   Answer: 42

2. Example 2

   A rectangle is covered with unit squares, 6 rows of 9, with no gaps or overlaps. What is its area in square units?

   1. Area is the number of unit squares that cover the rectangle. Count them fast: 6 rows of 9 is 6 × 9.
   2. Area = length × width = 9 × 6 = 54 square units.

   Answer: 54 square units

3. Example 3

   A rectangle is 7 cm long and 6 cm wide. What is its area in square centimeters?

   1. Area is the space inside a rectangle. Multiply its length by its width.
   2. Area = length × width = 7 × 6 = 42 square centimeters.

   Answer: 42
