Example 1
3 × 1/2 = ?
- 3 × 1/2 means 3 groups of 1/2.
- Multiply the whole number by the numerator: 3 × 1 = 3. The denominator stays 2.
- So 3 × 1/2 = 3/2.
Answer: 3/2

Write 0.8 as a fraction
- 0.8 has one digit after the decimal point, so it counts tenths.
- 0.8 is 8 tenths: the numerator is 8 and the denominator is 10.

Answer: 8/10
Example 3
