1. Example 1

   What are the coordinates of the point on the grid? (x, y)

   1. Start at the origin, (0, 0), where the x-axis and y-axis cross.
   2. Count across along the x-axis: the point is 1 unit to the right, so x = 1.
   3. Now count up: the point is 9 units up, so y = 9.
   4. Write x first, then y: the point is (1, 9).

   Answer: (1, 9)

2. Example 2

   What are the coordinates of the point on the grid? (x, y)

   1. Start at the origin, (0, 0), where the x-axis and y-axis cross.
   2. Count across along the x-axis: the point is 7 units to the right, so x = 7.
   3. Now count up: the point is 9 units up, so y = 9.
