1. Example 1

   How many corners does a hexagon have?

   1. A corner is where two sides meet. Touch each corner of the hexagon.
   2. Count them: 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6.
   3. The hexagon has 6 corners.

   Answer: 6

2. Example 2

   Which shape comes to a point: a cylinder or a cone?

   1. A cylinder has a flat circle at both ends.
   2. A cone has a flat circle at one end and a point at the other.
   3. So the answer is the cone.

   Answer: cone

3. Example 3

   Is this a rectangle or a square?

   1. A rectangle has 4 straight sides — 2 long and 2 short — and 4 square corners. A square has 4 straight sides that are all the same length and 4 square corners.
   2. Count the sides and corners of this shape: it has 4 straight sides — 2 long and 2 short — and 4 square corners.
   3. So it is a rectangle.

   Answer: rectangle
