56 + 44 = 100. The ones: 6 + 4 = 10 (regroup). The tens: 5 + 4 + 1 = 10. Answer: 100!

1. Break apart both numbers by place value.
2. 55 = 50 + 5
3. 35 = 30 + 5
4. Add the tens: 50 + 30 = 80
5. Add the ones: 5 + 5 = 10
6. 10 ones = 1 ten and 0 ones (regrouping)
7. Combine: 80 + 10 = 90
Answer: 90
Example 2
22 + 44 = ?
1. Break apart both numbers by place value.
2. 22 = 20 + 2
3. 44 = 40 + 4
4. Add the tens: 20 + 40 = 60
5. Add the ones: 2 + 4 = 6
