2-Digit × 1-Digit with Regrouping
Master multiplication with carrying
What You'll Learn
- Regroup (carry) in multiplication
- Keep track of carried digits
- Solve any 2-digit × 1-digit problem
📖When to Regroup
When multiplying the ones gives 10 or more, you need to regroup. For 46 × 7: 6 × 7 = 42. Write 2, carry 4. Then 4 × 7 = 28, plus 4 = 32. Answer: 322.
📖Step by Step
1) Multiply ones: 6 × 7 = 42. Write 2, carry 4. 2) Multiply tens: 4 × 7 = 28. 3) Add the carry: 28 + 4 = 32. 4) Write 32 next to the 2 = 322.
💡
Write the carried number small above the tens place so you do not forget it!
⚠️
The most common mistake is forgetting to add the carried digit. Always check your work!
