Grade 6 Statistics: All Measures
Mean, median, mode, range
What You'll Learn
- Find the mean and median (measures of center)
- Find the mode and range (most common value and spread)
📖All Measures
Every sheet mixes all four measures. Mean: add the numbers and divide by how many there are. Median: put them in order and take the middle. Mode: the number that appears most often. Range: greatest minus least.
Worked examples
Real problems from the practice worksheets, solved one step at a time.
Example 1
Find the mean of: 8, 27, 14, 27, 16, 22
- Add all the numbers: 8 + 27 + 14 + 27 + 16 + 22 = 114.
- There are 6 numbers, so divide the total by 6: 114 ÷ 6 = 19.
- So the mean is 19.
Answer: 19
Example 2
Find the mode of: 12, 19, 16, 6, 19, 19, 6
- Count how many times each number appears: 6 appears 2 times, 19 appears 3 times; every other number appears once.
- 19 appears more often than any other number (3 times).
- So the mode is 19.
Answer: 19
Example 3
Find the range of: 24, 17, 5, 15, 15, 27, 15, 26
- Find the greatest and least numbers: the greatest is 27 and the least is 5.
- The range is the difference: 27 − 5 = 22.
- So the range is 22.
Answer: 22
