1. Example 1

   Solve: 5x + 3 = 13

   1. Subtract 3 from both sides: 5x = 13 − 3 = 10.
   2. Divide both sides by 5: x = 10 ÷ 5 = 2.
   3. Check: 5 × 2 + 3 = 13 ✓ So x = 2.

   Answer: 2

2. Example 2

   Solve: 4x + 4 = 40

   1. Subtract 4 from both sides: 4x = 40 − 4 = 36.
   2. Divide both sides by 4: x = 36 ÷ 4 = 9.
   3. Check: 4 × 9 + 4 = 40 ✓ So x = 9.

   Answer: 9

3. Example 3

   Solve: 6x + 9 = 27

   1. Subtract 9 from both sides: 6x = 27 − 9 = 18.
   2. Divide both sides by 6: x = 18 ÷ 6 = 3.
   3. Check: 6 × 3 + 9 = 27 ✓ So x = 3.

   Answer: 3
